    President Moktar Ould Daddah of Mauritania, and the Spanish Foreign Minister Georgio Lopez Bravo met at Nowadhibou airport in northern Mauritania on Friday (June 12) to attend the inauguration ceremony of a fishing complex installed by the Spanish firm IMAPEC.

    After reviewing the guard of honour, the President and the Spanish Foreign Minister met briefly in the airport lounge.

    Mr. Lopez Bravo was accompanied on his visit by the Spanish Minister of Industry Jose Maria Lopez de Letona. A Spanish Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Mr. Lopez Bravo had been invited to visit Mauritania some time ago, and the invitation had been renewed by President Ould Daddah.

    In addition to opening the fishing complex, which will be able to handle 15,000 tons of fish a year, Mr. Lopez Bravo was expected to tour a radio communication centre installed by the Spanish Telephone Company.

    Earlier last week, the Mauritanian President met Morocco's King Hassan to combine efforts for the decolonisation of the phosphate-rich spanish Sahara in North West Africa. During his stay in Mauritania the Spanish Foreign Minister was expected to have talks with President Daddah about the disputed territory.

    Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the fishing complex the Mauritanian Minister of Industry and Fishing, Mr. M'Kaitrat thanked the Spanish people and their government for the factory, calling it an example of Mauritanian-Spanish co-operation. In response to his speech, the Spanish Minister of Industry, Mr. Jose Maria Lopez de Letona thanked his counterpart and expressed the hope that the co-operation between the two countries would continue.

    The President and his party then t???rued the factory before leaving Noudhabiou, the industrial capital of Mauritania, for Nouakchott where the Mauritanian leader was expected to meet briefly with Mr. Lopez Bravo.
