    AN OLYMPIC AIRWAYS DC-6B AIRLINER, ON A FLIGHT FROM CRETE TO ATHENS, WAS SEIZED YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) OVER THE MEDITERRANEAN AND FORCED TO LAND AT CAIRO. THE HIJACKER, 30-YEAR-OLD GEORGE FLAMOURIDES, A GREEK NATIONAL, FIRED A SHOT OVER THE PILOT'S HEAD WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO RADIO ATHENS. THE 95 PASSENGERS ABOARD THE AIRLINER RETURNED TO ATHENS LAST NIGHT ABOARD AN OLYMPIC AIRWAYS BOEING 707 WHICH WAS FLOWN TO CAIRO TO PICK THEM UP. THE DC-6B WAS FLOWN BACK EMPTY TO ATHENS.

    MR. FLAMOURIDES TOLD SOME REPORTERS WHO MANAGED TO GET A BRIEF EXCHANGE WITH HIM AFTER THE AIRLINER TOUCHED DOWN, THAT HE WAS A COMMUNIST AND WAS SEEKING POLITICAL ASYLUM IN EGYPT OR THE SOVIET UNION. HE WAS TAKEN AWAY FOR QUESTIONING BY EGYPTIAN POLICE.

    CAPTAIN DENIS MAYROKEFALOS, QUOTED BY THE MIDDLE EAST NEWS AGENCY, SAID THE BULLET THAT MR. FLAMOURIDES FIRED WENT THROUGH THE CABIN WINDOW.

    POLICE OFFICIALS IN ATHENS SAID THAT TWO ROYAL HELLENIC AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT GAVE CHASE BUT WERE WARNED TO KEEP AWAY OR THE AIRLINER WOULD BE BLOWN UP IN MID-AIR.

    PROFESSOR GEORGAKIS, GENERAL DIRECTOR OF OLYMPIC AIRWAYS AND PERSONAL FRIEND OF ARISTOTLE ONASSIS, OWNER OF THE AIRLINE, WENT TO CAIRO AND RETURNED IN THE BOEING THAT BROUGHT THE PASSENGERS BACK TO CAIRO.
