Background: Doctor Banda, the Nyasaland nationalist leader who walked out of the London conference on the Rhodesia and Nyasaland Federation, arrived back home Dec. 19th.
There was an enthusiastic welcome for him in Blantyre, but the crowd was not as large as expected, and there are reports that Dr. Banda's more impatient colleagues in his nationalist party feel that he is not making fast enough progress.
In London, he did what he promised his party by saying that the Federation in its present form is dead. But his London experiences seem to have mellowed him.
He says that all he wants now is an election which he is sure will bring his party to power, so that Nyasaland can then free itself from the Federation.
