Background: Britain's Clothing Export Council is mounting its biggest-ever fashion showing at the International Fashion Festival in Moscow next month. Today (Tuesday) in London, there was a preview of some of the 1,200 designs which Britain hopes will boost its foreign exchange earnings.
The Clothing Export Council, which organised the show for the British Board of Trade, expects nearly 120,000 Russians will watch the series of twelve fashion "spectaculars" at the Lenin Palace of Sport.
The British party will total 120 people, including 20 top model girls and 12 male models. The rest are production staff and representatives of some of the sixty manufacturers whose clothes will be shown.
Programmes in Russian will be handed out at the shows, and there will be a banquet at which the British manufacturers can meet Soviet buyers.
This year it's estimated that Russians will buy more than GBP5,000,000 worth of British clothes. The "spectaculars", heading a new sales drive, are expected to increase that figure.
