Background: Hollywood's annual Oscar Awards will be announced on Tuesday (March 27) with two of the main nominees not expected to show up. The Godfather, Marlon Brando, and his film son, Al Pacino.
Brando has been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar, and he's regarded as a certain winner. So far this year, he's turned down all awards for his role in The Godfather.
Academy spokesmen said on Monday (26 March) that they had concluded he would not attend. They said they had not heard from him.
The celebrity-packed Oscar awards ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles Music Centre.
Brando's competitors for the Oscar are Lord Olivier and Michael Caine from 'Slueth', Peter O'Toole for 'The Ruling Class', and Paul Winfield as the poor black United States sharecropper in 'Sounder'.
Nobody has predicted a clean-cut winner of the female Oscar, but vying for honours are Cicely Tyson of 'Sounder' and Diana Ross for 'Lady Sings the Blues', and 'Cabaret' star Liza Minelli.
