    Yesterday (October 6) representatives of the Moscow public members of the Soviet Peace Committee, Scientific workers, intellectuals and representatives of city enterprises and organisations gathered in the Sverdlov Hall of the Kremlin. Here was due to take place the ceremony of conferring the Lenin Prize for the Consolidation of Peace among the Peoples on British public figure and journalist, Gordon Schaffer. The prize has been awarded in recognition of Mr. Schaffer's outstanding services in the struggle to preserve and strengthen peace.

    Member of the Committee Alexandrev hands the gold medal and diploma, amid loud applause, to Lenin prize-winner Gordon Schaffer.

    The outstanding peace-campaigner was congratulated on winning the high award by Responsible Secretary of the Peace Committee Kotov, Vice-President of the U.S.S.R. - Great Britain Society Nikiforov, woman worker of the Likhachov Automobile Works Lukyanova and Editor-in-Chief of Literaturnaya Gazeta Chaikovski.

    The audience warmly applauded the speech made y Gordon Schaffer, winner of the Lenin Prize for Consolidation of Peace among the Peoples. He expressed his deep gratitude foe the award and the friendly words that had been spoken about him.
