Background: The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Nehru opened the 17th. World Scout Conference at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, India, July 29.
The conference, the first to be held in Asia, is being attended by some 200 delegates and observers from 50 countries.
Addressing the scouts, the Indian Prime minister advised them to learn from the teachings of the great Indian Emperor Ashoka, who 2,300 years ago, preached the gospel of peace and tolerance.
After his speech Mr. Nehru was greeted by Mr. Eli Boyaner, Chairman of the committee.
