Background: Negotiations between France and Algeria on future aid arrangements and oil price continued in Algiers on Friday (18 Dec).
Representing France at the fourth stage of the talks was the Minister for Industrial and Scientific Development, M. Francois Xavier Ortoli. The Algerian delegate was M. Abdek Bouteflika, the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
In earlier negotiations a joint Algeria-France aid project which channelled 2,000 million francs (153 million sterling) into Algeria was wound up. Now the Algerians are seeking to get higher prices from French oil companies.
