A SPECIAL TRAIN FROM GATWICK AIRPORT BROUGHT THE PRESIDENT TO VICTORIA, WHERE WAITING TO GREET HIM WERE CAMEROON STUDENTS -- AND THE PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAROLD MACMILLAN, AND THE FOREIGN SECRETARY, LORD HOME.

    FOR THE PRESIDENT, MR. AHMADU AHIDJO, THIS WAS HIS FIRST VISIT. FOR HIS WIFE, A BOUQUET FROM A GIRL STUDENT, ONE OF THE DOZENS NOW IN BRITAIN. THEN, MADAME AHIDJO AND HER THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD HUSBAND LEFT FOR LUNCH WITH LORD HOME. DURING THEIR STAY THEY WILL LUNCH WITH QUEEN ELIZABETH AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE.

    CAMEROON BECAME INDEPENDENT IN 1960. THE FORMER BRITISH AND FRENCH TERRITORIES MAKING UP THE PRESENT REPUBLIC WERE MERGED THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
