    The highest ranking North Korean leader to visit India so far, Foreign Minister Mr. Ho Dam, met Indian ministers in New Delhi on Wednesday (30 July) to discuss increased co-operation between North Korea and India.

    Mr. Ho Dan arrived on Tuesday (29 July) for a five-day official visit. After talks with Indian Foreign Minister. Mr. Yeshwantrao Chavan, the North Korean minister told newsmen he had expressed North Korea's "just position for realising the reunification of Korea independently and peacefully." He added that India's position on Korea was that there should be reunification by direct communication with no outside interference.

    Mr. Ho Dam, who is officially known as the Vice-Premier of the Administrative Council and Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of Korea, said North Korea would seek re-admission to the United Nations after reunification.

    His visit comes after a series of high-level contracts between the two countries. The visits point to the growth in the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is also reflected in the growth of trade relations.

    But apart from bilateral matters, several international issues were expected to arise during Mr. Ho's visit. North Korea is making a strong bid for admission to the Non-Aligned Movement of which India is a member.

    Its application is likely to be considered when the Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned countries meet next month in Lima. South Korea has said if North Korea is admitted, it will also press its claim.

    Mr. Ho was due to meet Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi on Thursday (31 July). He was to deliver a personal message from North Korean President Kim II Surg.
