    A LARGE CROWD GATHERED OUTSIDE THE CHURCH OF THE RECESSIONAL AT THE CEMETERY AND HEARD THE FUNERAL SERVICE RELAYED FROM THE CHURCH.

    AMONG HOLLYWOOD FILM STARS PRESENT WERE EDMUND O'BRIEN, DONALD O'CONNOR, AND SONNY TUFTS. THE PALL BEARERS INCLUDED ERNEST BORGNINE, RORY CALHOUN AND GEORGE STEVENS.

    THE 50-YEAR-OLD ACTOR IS BELIEVED TO HAVE DIED FROM A HEART ATTACK. HE PLAYED IN MORE THAN 150 FILMS, MOSTLY IN "TOUGH-GUY" ROLES. HIS PORTRAYAL OF THE COWBOY HERO IN "SHANE" WAS CONSIDERED A CLASSIC BY MOST FILM CRITICS. IT WAS ALSO HIS FAVOURITE ROLE.
