    About sixty delegates from eight African countries began a week-long workshop on the role of Agricultural Co-operatives in development strategies in the Ghana capital, Accra on Monday (25 March). The workshop is spensored by the Agricultural Co-operative Development International of the United Sta??? the International Federation of Agricultural Producers and the Ghana government.

    Delegates form Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, Liberia, Cameroon, Ethiopia and Nigeria are sttending, as well as observers from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

    Ghane's Commissioner for Labour, Social Welfare and Cooperative Major K.B. Agbo opened the workshop. In his speech he said he hoped it was not going to be marely an academic exercise with the conclusions shelved in the archives.

    Seven papers are to be presented by delegates, and field trips to Co-operative farms in the Keta district and to the Ghana/German settlement farm at Peki have also been arranged.
