SYNOPSIS: The Sixth Palestine Students Congress opened in Algeria's National Assembly building on Friday. Among the observers and delegates were members of the People's Republic of China Embassy in Algiers, and Algerian Minister of Higher Education Mr. Mohammed Ben Yahia.
There to open the Congress was Mr. Kaid Ahmed, a member of the Algerian Revolutionary Council and leader of the National Liberation Front.
With Mr. Ahmed--on the left--was Mr. Abu Ayad, a member of the governing council of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. The two leaders, who jointly presided over the meeting, heard Palestinian students talk about their problem with both the Israelis and the Jordanian Government.
P.L.O. leader Mr. Ayad also addressed the meeting. Among the observers was leading Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver.
The meeting opened on day of some tension in the Middle east--Algeria had just broken off diplomatic relations with Jordan, and President Boumedienne promise support for the Palestinian guerrillas. It was the recent clash between the Palestinians and the Jordanian Government that led to the current break in relations which had been strained since similar large-scale clashes last October.
