Background: Stromboli, Sicily's north coast island volcano, continues to erupt after alarming the island's sparse population yesterday (Sunday) with a loud boom.

Shortly after the 3,030 foot (924 metre) volcano had burst into life, Visnews cameraman Pietro Schimmenti flew over the island. Police later said that the island's inhabitants were in no danger, while today the lava streams were reported to be cooling off and hardening. The main crater, however, is still shooting molten rock and glowing ashes high into the air.
