Dr. Halim Mohamed, the Sudanese President of the African Football Confederation, gave an exclusive interview to Visnews on Tuesday (June 23) on he decision of the 16 African delegates to demand the suspension of Rhodesia from the International Football Federation (FIFA). The suspension was agreed to, and is initially for two years.
The African States claimed that the status of Rhodesia -- which was elected as a British Colony and therefore under the auspices of the English Football Association -- has now changed; and that it can no longer be a legal member of FIFA.
Dr. Mohamed was careful to add that no suggestion of racial discrimination in sport had been levelled against Rhodesia--a charge which led to the suspension of South Africa from FIFA some years ago.
