  • Description

The United Nations International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has decided to debate the downed Libyan airliner incident. The organisation's 125-member Assembly added the item to the agenda for their four-day session which began in the United Nations on Tuesday (February 27) following an Egyptian proposal. The meeting, arranged before the airliner was shot down over the Sinai desert last week by Israeli aircraft with the loss of 106 lives, had been called to discuss other business.

There were no objections voiced during the debate of Egypt's proposal to add the item to the agenda, although 19 members voted against it at the end. Fifty-nine were in favour.

This film shows part of the debate -- with Egyptian and Israeli delegates addressing the Assembly -- and the vote.
