Background: President Videla of Argentina has made his first trip out of the country since he seized power in a military coup last March.

SYNOPSIS: Accompanied by his wife, President Videla was making a three day state visit to Bolivia, there to make his first contacts with President Banzer, who greeted the Argentine party at the international airport. Security arrangements were strong at the airport for President Videla's arrival - both inside the airport and lining the road the leaders took to La Paz.

President Banzer told his counterpart that Bolivia respected and admired Argentina and emphasised the historical coincidence which had brought their respective armed forces to the responsibilities of power. President Videla said his Government would intensify contacts with Bolivia, a country he described as a brother and companion in the struggle for development.

The visit was expected to open the way to greater political, economic and commercial relations between Argentina and Bolivia. President Videla was to be lavishly honoured by the Bolivians. He was to be presented with the Mayoral key to the city by the Mayor of La Paz and later at Government House would receive the country's highest award, the Condor of the Andes. He was to visit the south of the country before returning to Argentina on Saturday, (30 October).
