  • Description

A group of espeleologists is trained in the Echauri rocks for the descent to the depths of San Martin in the Navarese Pyrenees, sponsored by the Navarrese Provincial Government. Our cameraman also takes part in the training.

It is hard and risky effort and the men have to be in perfect conditions to undertake this exercise. Some on the surface and others inside the caves which have an extension of more than 400 metres. As in many of the caverns it is not possible to employ the lathe, the men descend by the ladder. This spot within its limited space combines all the equivalents of a vertical descent of over 70 m. as well as the fissures similar to those of the caverns of more than 40 m.

The equivalent later to be used in exploring is also tested here.

    Pegs, musketoons, cables and trappings...

Isaac Sontesteban who rendered valuable aid for the shooting of these scenes, land clasped to the safety rope which is in turn hitched to the harness by the musketoon.
