  • Description

A party was held in the City Hall, Toronto, Canada, February 23, to celebrate the birth of Queen Elizabeth's baby son. Given by the Netherlands Centre of New Canadians, the occasion was attended by immigrants from several European countries.

Controller of the City Council, William Dennison, made a short speech before Council was adjourned to join in the singing and dancing. Many of the guests turned out in their national costumes to dance to the music of a Dutch Jubal band.

In keeping with an old Dutch custom - on the birth of a Prince in Holland the people eat a cake shaped like a pink mouse - the Dutch women served plates of small pink cakes, in honour of the new arrival.
