Background: Leads United tonight (Thursday) won the European Fairs Soccer Cup after drawing I-I with Juventus Turin of Italy in Leads. The first log of the first played in Turin, was also a draw with both sides scoring two goals. This made the aggregate three goals each, but because away goals are worth twice as many points as home goals, the trophy want to Leeds by the narrowest possible margin. Leeds also won the cup three years ago.
The game itself produced some fast, exciting football which delighted the crowd of 42,000 people.

That goal won the Fairs Cup for Leeds. Juventus were spurred on and seven minutes later equalised, but no matter how they tried they were not able to score again. Both sides finished with three goals from the two matches. But as goals scored away accounted for twice as many points as those scored on home grounds, Leeds won the cup by the narrowest margin possible. They also won the cup in 1968.
