  • Description

The town of Alice Springs, Australia, recently celebrated an "Outback" Carnival called "The Bangtail Muster". The whole population of the central Australian town - about 4,000 - joined with about 400 tourists from down south.

Aborigines in loin cloths and painted with the best ochres for the occasion, staged a "Walkabout" through the town. It was part of the mile long procession which took more than an hour to pass along Todd Street.

This "Bangtail Muster", an annual splash of colour and gaiety, has it's origin oddly enough in London. It's the result of an exhibition held there three years ago which included an exhibit from Alice Springs.
