The United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, says he believes a conference on the future of Namibia could be called in the near future, and a firm date established for the territory's independence.
SYNOPSIS: Dr. Kissinger made the remarks after conferring with the United Nations Secretary General Dr. Kurt Waldheim, following the adjournment of the Security Council's debate on Namibia. On Friday (8 October), he also held talks with Mr. Joachim Chissano, the Mozambique Minister o foreign Affairs; and the Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Munyua Waiyaki. There are reports that Dr. Kissinger asked African countries not to press for a Security Council resolution on Namibia to allow for more diplomatic efforts.
