Background: At the height of the holiday season in Atlantic City, New Jersey the staffs of that resort's hotels and restaurant took part in a competition to test their skills, as waiters, bellboys, housemaids and ice carvers.

First in action were the housemaids and it was room service at the double as the winner, Mrs. Genevieve Bozzy made up a bed at high speed.- and then collapsed exhausted into a chair.

Ice carving was next and, with the skill of a sculptor, the contestants speedily fashioned carved figures from blocks of ice.

One waiter was in a class of his own - he carried his tray on his head and he demonstrated his skill in a solo performance.

Then came the waiters race. The scurrying competitors dashed back and forth and service was suspended now and then as trayloads of food spilled into the watching crowds. Atlantic City visitors concluded it was better to wait for your food than have it thrown at you.
