The Turkish President, Mr. Bayar, continued his to short visit to the Federal Republic of Germany with a visit to the capital, Bonn. Early in the day, May 8th., he toured Bonn. He went to the City Hall where the Mayor of Bonn greeted him with a speech of welcome. As an honoured guest of the Government, President Bayar signed the City's Golden Book.
Later he paid a visit to the Turkish Embassy, where members of the staff, their families and Turkish students in Bonn crowded round him, cheering.
The evening was spent at a special dinner at the Bonn residence of the German President House. Among the guests was the Federal Chancellor, Dr. Adenauer and his daughter-in-law and other members of his family, other Federal Government Ministers and foreign Ambassadors, were also there.
The following day President Bayar toured the Ruhr area, visiting several industrial concerns there. The most important of these were the Demag and Mannesmann factories, engaged in heavy industrial work. The Director General of Demag, Dr. Ruster conducted President Bayar round the works. At Huckingen, where the Mannesmann works are situated, Dr. Eisenbraun, a Director, met the President.
President Bayar travelled from Konigavinter to Duisburg by a special train for these industrial tours.
While the President was entertained by the German industrialists, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Zerlu, was ratifying various cultural agreements with the Federal Foreign Minister, von Brentano. These agreements will bring about closer co-operation between German and Turkish universities, on matters of research in several fields, and the countries respective scientific societies. A permanent joint committee will be set up to supervise these activities.
