  • Description

Kathleen Cleaver, wife of former American Black Panther leader Eldridge Cleaver, left Algiers on Friday (29 May) for North Korea where she will have her second child in August. The invitation for the visit came from the North Korean government.

Their first child Lumumba was born in Algiers where the couple have been living for nearly a year. Cleaver fled the United States in 1968 after being charged with violating parole in California. A warrant has been issued for his arrest but he eluded both state and federal authorities.

He said in an interview recently that he wanted to go home and that if he was given his day in court and restored on bail then he would be willing to face the charges against him. He added that if that was not possible he would return the way he left.
