The Mali national newspaper, "The Essor", described President Senghor as an untiring advocate of economic, social, cultural and even political unity of the black continent.
SYNOPSIS: Mali prepares to welcome the President of Senegal, Leopold-Sedar Senghor, who arrived last Thursday to begin an official three-day visit.

President Senghor arrived at the head of a large delegation. With him were Foreign Minister Dr. Amadou Karim Gaye, Minister of Finance and Economy Abbacar Ba, and the Ministers of rural and industrial development.
The two heads of state had a private talk, but waited until Friday for the first working session, with the full delegations present.
A full state welcome awaited President Senghor, who worked in close cooperation with Mali when the two states were among the members of the organisation of Senegal River states. Although Senegal resigned from the organisation, said "The Essor", the Mali national newspaper, Senegal has remained convinced of the need for such regional groups. A joint communique issued by the two Presidents at the end of the visit on Saturday reaffirmed their will be pursue their aims within the framework of the development of the river basin. The communique also announced that they had decided to strengthen political, economic and cultural cooperation between their countries. And Colonel Traore accepted an invitation to visit Senegal.
