    America's occupation of Okinawa came to an end yesterday after 27 years. The Emperor of Japan, Prime Minister Sato and American Vice-President Agnew attended a ceremony in Tokyo to mark the handing back of the island to Japan. But there is opposition to the changes About two hundred steel helmeted students staged a rally in Tokyo. One thousand students had been expected to demonstrate and the police were out in force. But there more no incidents. On Okinawa itself, thousands of dignitaries packed a large hall to watch the handing over ceremony. A similar event in Tokyo was beamed to the island and the audience watched it on television. Okinawa was taken by American forces 27 years ago. in the closing days of World War Two. The island's return to Japan is welcomed in the country, but the continued presence of American troops has come under criticism. A number of demonstrations have been planned by students. The joint ceremonies closed with the audience giving three cries of Banzai for the Emperor.
