SYNOPSIS: Fighting has been taking place around Highway Three in the Khmerr Republic - formerly known as Cambodia - as Government troop attempt to clear the area of communist forces. The operation which began at the village of Tran Khnar, 27 miles (44 kilometres south of the capital, Phnom Penh is aimed at extending the security of the capital to the south before the monsoon rains come down in force. One big problem, however is the plight of refugees fleeing from the battle zone. For after a year under communists control, they are diseased, undernourishe??? and in need of medical attention
Most of the refugees, being tended by a team of government doctors, have needed medical aid mainly for conjunctivitis, a disorder of the eye and the result of vitamin deficiency. Police and government information officials are following the troop and giving advice to the refugees -- informing them of government aims and directing them to medical centres.
