    PRESS SECRETARY GEORGE CHRISTIAN SAID IT WAS "PRETTY MUCH A SOCIAL VISIT--A PERSONAL VISIT."
    AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE VISIT, PHOTOGRAPHERS AND REPORTERS WERE BROUGHT INTO JOHNSON'S OFFICE, WHERE LORD AVON SAT ON A SOFA AND JOHNSON IN A ROCKING CHAIR. AS THE PRESS ENTERED, THE TWO MEN WERE TALKING ABOUT A PAINTING OF FORMER PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT WHICH HANGS OVER THE MANTLE IN JOHNSON'S OFFICE.

    LORD AVON NOTED THAT HE HAD RELATIVES IN BALTIMORE IN THE NEIGHBOURING STATE OF MARYLAND, AND JOHNSON INTRODUCED HIM TO A REPORTER FROM THE BALTIMORE SUN, MURIEL DOBBIN.
