Background: Many Indians were waiting outside the council house, for the arrival of the President of India, Dr.Radhakrishnan, who turned up ten minutes ahead of schedule.He was welcomed by the Lord Mayor, Alderman Mrs.Emily Allan.
Like most of Coventry's visitors, the President saw the city's cathedral, and he was shown round by the Provost, the Very Reverend Harold Williams.Also in the party was the cathedral's architect.Sir Basil Spence.During his tour, the Indian President said he was especially impressed by the stained glass of the cathedral, and the huge tapestry which caused so much controversy just over a year ago.After lunch, the President visited an old people's home, and this evening he's watching a performance of Julius Caesar at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon.
