Background: The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Andrew Foreman, a Methodist minister who has been taking his 6 year old daughter Pamela daily to one of the integrated schools in New Orleans, held church services as usual Sunday, December 4. He preached a sermon emphasizing forgiveness but did not mention last week's demonstration outside the school.
Pamela, who accompanied her father to church, entered with him by a side door to avoid segregationists demonstrating in front of the building.
About two thirds of the 150 persons inside the church were strangers - mostly tourists and newsmen. At the beginning of the communion services, four women got up and walked out, shielding their faces from photographers.
They said they were opposed to Dr. Foreman's refusal to keep his daughter out of school.
