The students of Lovanium university in Congo-Kinshasha have begun a two-year stint of army discipline. The complete student body, male and female, has been drafted following a demonstration on 4 June by the students to mark the anniversary of disorders two years ago when the army intervened and six students were killed. President Mobutu decided to punish the students by obliging them to enrol in the army. Under the supervision of seasoned army officers, the raw recruits have already begun a tough training schedule. So far nothing has been said about the future of they university, the largest in the country.
