Boxing...and the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, Larry Holmes of the United States, arrived?
Boxing...and the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, Larry Holmes of the United States, arrived in London on a world tour on Friday (30 June) and proclaimed himself the greatest fighter in the world. Holmes, who won the WBC title by outpointing Ken Norton in Las Vegas three weeks ago, said all other heavyweights could be forgotten as he would remain champion for a long time.
SYNOPSIS: At the sportsman Club in central London the 28-year-old Holmes showed no signs of nerves when he met the British press, despite being a relative known until his win over Norton.
Larry Holmes turned professional in 1973 and learned his trade slowly, working as a sparring partner for both Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. He says if there are any Ali moves in his style they have just rubbed off because he has made no effort to copy Ali. Holmes says he has three or four challenges being arranged but there was nothing definite yet.
