    THE SELF-CONFESSED SPY SAID THE U.S. INTELLIGENCE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THE UPKEEP OF HIS MISTRESSES - ONE OF THEM WAS FLOWN 3 TIMES FROM PARIS TO WASHINGTON. GEORGIEV IS SAID TO HAVE RECEIVED GBP71,000 FOR BETRAYING POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND MILITARY SECRETS. HE SAID HE NEVER WENT TO THE AMERICANS FOR MONEY, BUT AGREED THAT HE PAID HIS MISTRESS EXPENSES.

    THREE THOUSAND DEMONSTRATORS STONED THE WINDOWS OF THE US DELEGATION AND OVERTURNED 4 CARS PARKED OUTSIDE WHILE THE TRIAL WAS IN PROGRESS. POLICE OUTSIDE THE LEGATION MADE LITTLE ATTEMPT TO STOP IT, SAID AN AMERICAN OFFICIAL.
