    A British man who set out in November 1970 to ride on horse-back from Lesotho to the Munich Olympics, crossed the River Danube in Hungary on Wednesday (9 August) on the last leg of his journey.

    Mr Gordon Naysmith, aged 40, a Scots born computer systems analyst, decided to make the twelve thousand mile (19,000KM) journey to prove the hardy qualities of Basuto ponies. He is a former horse breeder.

    He originally set out with his wife, Mrs Ria Naysmith, aged 26, but she dropped out in Nairobi, Kenya, because of the rigours of the journey. since then Mr Naysmith has travelled on his own through Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, the soviet Union and Rumania.

    Now he hopes to ride out of Hungary, and across Austria before the Munich Olympics Games begin on August 26.
