The American Motorcycle Association brought its championship racing show to Atlanta over the weekend. The top riders in the country turned out for the three-day event; which was highlighted by a high-speed moto-cross. In moto-cross racing the accent is both on speed and skilful riding. Contestants race against the clock as they battle the tough mile and one half course carved right out of the scenic Georgia countryside. At Rhode Atlanta have six steep jumps and three winding mountain roads to conquer. The course was especially dry and the dust kicked up by the big bikes didn't make the going easy....The winners' list read like an international Who's Who in motorcycle racing: Doug Sanger of Oklahoma (INDISTINCT) was the winner in the two-fifty cubic centimetre heat, followed by European champion Gunnar Lindstrom of Sweden. Lindstrom has been a strong rider on the international moto-cross circuit for many years: and is now riding in a limited number of American events. Motorcycle racing is becoming one of the more popular sporting events in the United States; over 15-thousand fans watched the action in Atlanta, and the three-day total attendance for the Championship series should be well over fifty-thousand spectators.

In moto-cross the accent is on skill as well as speed. In this tough one-and-a-half mile course carved out of the fine Georgia landscape contestants had to survive six steep jumps and master three winding mountain roads. In addition the course was exceptionally dry, and the dust thrown up by the heavy bikes was an extra problem... And the whole thing is run against the clock ...

The winners' list contained the names of many riders famous around the world in motorcycling circles: among them Doug Sanger of Oklahoma - and Gunnar Lindstrom, the European champion, from Sweden...
