  • Description

TRAFFIC IN THE HEART OF HONG KONG WAS DISRUPTED ON MONDAY (OCTOBER 16) FOR THE SECOND NIGHT RUNNING AS THE NUMBER OF BOMB SCARES TOPPED 500 AFTER FOUR DAYS OF A TERROR CAMPAIGN IN THE BRITISH COLONY.

BUSES WERE RE-ROUTED DOWN SIDE STREETS AND TRAMS QUEUED UP AS BOMB EXPERTS TACKLED SUSPECTED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES IN MAIN STREETS USUALLY TEEMING WITH PEOPLE.

NEARLY 100 SUSPECTED BOMBS WERE FOUND ON MONDAY BUT ONLY 20 TURNED OUT TO BE GENUINE. THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF BOMB INJURIES.

ARMED BRITISH TROOPS WERE RUSHED TO CITY CENTRE TO MOUNT GUARD ON SUSPECTED BOMBS UNTIL EXPERTS COULD DISMANTLE THEM.

(YESTERDAY, POLICE UNEARTHED A CACHE OF CELIGNITE AND DETONATORS ON A REMOTE HILLSIDE AS REPORTS OF SUSPECTED BOMBS IN FIVE DAYS APPROACHED THE THOUSAND MARK.)
