    BRITISH PRIME MINISTER WILSON ARRIVED BACK IN LONDON TONIGHT (MONDAY) AFTER TALKS WITH RHODESIAN LEADER IAN SMITH ON THE RHODESIAN INDEPENDENCE ISSUE AND WITH NO SIGN OF ANY IMMEDIATE SETTLEMENT. BEFORE LEAVING GIBRALTAR, WHERE THE TALKS WERE HELD ABOARD HMS FEARLESS, MR. WILSON SAID VERY DEEP DIFFERENCES STILL DIVIDE THE TWO COUNTRIES ON INDEPENDENCE.

    MR. SMITH LEFT FOR HOME YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) TAKING WITH HIM A DOCUMENT SETTING OUT THE MINIMUM BRITISH DEMANDS FOR APPROVING RHODESIAN INDEPENDENCE. IT WAS TO BE STUDIED BY MR. SMITH'S CABINET COLLEAGUES.

    MR. WILSON SAID HE WOULD BE PREPARED FOR ANOTHER RHODESIAN SUMMIT IF THE RHODESIANS SO DESIRED AND IF THERE WAS A FEELING ON BOTH SIDES THAT A RESULT COULD BE PRODUCED. HE SAID COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY, MR. GEORGE THOMPSON, WOULD BE STANDING BY TO GO TO SALISBURY IF REQUESTED.
