    TO CELEBRATE THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE ZANZIBAR REVOLUTION, A FOOTBALL MATCH WAS PLAYED BETWEEN THE MEMBERS OF THE REVOLUTIONARY COUNCIL AND TANZANIAN MINISTERS.

    THE MATCH, WHICH WAS PLAYED IN THE MAO TSE TUNG STADIUM IN ZANZIBAR YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) WAS ATTENDED BY THE TANZANIAN VICE-PRESIDENT, MR ABADI KARUME AND GUESTS FROM THE SOVIET UNION, THE CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC AND OTHER COMMUNIST COUNTRIES.

    ZANZIBAR WAS FORMERLY RULED BY THE SULTAN OF ZANZIBAR AND A BRITISH PROTECTORATE UNTIL DECEMBER THE 10TH, 1963, WHEN THE COUNTRY BECAME FULLY INDEPENDENT. ON JANUARY THE 12TH, 1964, A REVOLUTIONARY PARTY SEIZED POWER AND THE SULTAN WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY. LATER, ZANZIBAR UNITED WITH TANGANYIKA AND THE TWO COUNTRIES BECAME TANZANIA.
