    Background: TEL AVIV, ISRAEL

Israel's continued presence in Southern Lebanon has claimed another Israeli military casualty. On November 8, 18-year-old Yosef Haliba was buried in Tel Aviv with full military honours after being killed instantly while on foot patrol in the Lebanese port city of Sidon. Four other members of his unit were wounded. Young Haliba's coffin was borne to its final resting place by military pallbearers, and a military rabbi chanted the ritual prayer for the dead at the graveside. The youth's parents, accompanied by a large crowd, led the mourners in the religious ceremony, followed by the traditional honour guard gun salute fired in tribute to their fallen comrade. Since entering Lebanon in 1982, Israeli forces have suffered losses of over 600 killed and hundreds more wounded. Jerusalem hopes that Israeli-Lebanese negotiations currently under way in the Southern Lebanese town of Naqoura will lead to a rapid Israeli military withdrawal from Lebanese territory..
