    At Quirinale Palace in Rome Mrs. Golda Meir, the Israeli Prime Minister, met Italian President Givoanni Leone on Monday, (15 January). The meeting was part of a round of discussions between the Israeli leader and Italian officials. Massive security precautions were in force during the meeting. Mrs. Meir's talks with Signor Leone lasted a little over an hour. An official statement said they had exchanged views on the Middle East, and described the talks as cordial. Signor Leone presented Mrs. Meir with a picture-book of the Quirinals Palace before she left for the Vatican to meet Pope Paul.

    SYNOPSIS: Quirinale Palace in the centre of Rome was the centre of massive security precautions when Israel's Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir arrived on Monday (15th Jan.) to meet Italian President Giovanni Leone. The meeting was part of around of discussions between Mrs. Meir and Italian leaders.

    An official statement, issued after the meeting, said that the President and Mrs. Meir had exchanged views on the Middle East. The statement described the talks as "cordial".

    Before the meeting ended Signor Leone presented the Israeli leader with a gift--a picture book of the impressive Quirinale Palace. Mrs. Meir then left for the Vatican to meet Pope Paul, the first such meeting since the state of Israel was born 25 years ago.
