    Government Ministers of Youth and Sport in French speaking countries began a two-day conference in the Ivory Coast capital, Abidjan, on Monday (5 November). Twenty-two ministerial delegations took part, and observers from the Higher Council for Sports in Africa (CCSA), from OCAM (Organisation of French speaking African countries, including Malagasy and Mauritius), and the Agency for Technical and Cultural Co-operation, also attended.

    The aim of the conference, which has met annually since 1969, is to erects structures to make it easier for young people to move into adult society. The conference is also aimed at spreading the ides that physical education and sport are essential to produces well rounded individuals.

    The outgoing President, M. Tonye M'Bog, Minister of Youth and Sport for Cameroun, presided over the meeting.

    The next conference is to be held in Canada.
