    AT A CEREMONY NEAR DAKAR ON TUESDAY, FRENCH MILITARY EQUIPMENT INCLUDING WEAPONS AND VEHICLES WAS OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER TO THE SENEGALESE ON BEHALF OF THE FRENCH NATION. REPRESENTING FRANCE WAS THE SECRETARY OF STATE IN CHARGE OF CO-OPERATION, M. YVON BOURGES.

    THE CEREMONY TOOK PLACE AT THE BEL-AIR BASE OUTSIDE DAKAR. BOTH FRENCH AND SENEGALESE TROOPS PART, PARADING AGAINST A BACKGROUND OF A WIDE RANGE OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT INCLUDING SMALL ARMS ROCKETS, ROCKET LAUNCHERS, FIELD GUNS, AND TROOPS TRANSPORTERS.

    IN HIS SPEECH, THE FRENCH MINISTER SAID HIS COUNTRY PLACED A GREAT DEAL OF IMPORTANCE ON FRIENDSHIP WITH SENEGAL. FRENCH TROOPS ARE STATIONED THERE UNDER THE TREATY OF CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.

    THE SENEGALESE FOREIGN MINISTER, M. AMADOU KARIM GAYE, THANKED THE PEOPLE OF FRANCE FOR THEIR AID AND SAID THAT FRANCO-SENEGALESE FRIENDSHIP HAD LASTED FOR CENTURIES.

    AMONG THOSE ATTENDING THE CEREMONY WERE GENERAL JEAN ALFRED DIALLO AND GENERAL BIGARD OF THE SENEGALESE ARMY.
