Background: Former Argentine President Juan Peron flew from Madrid, Spain to Rome Tuesday (14 November) on the first stage of a planned return to his country after seventeen years exile.

The 77-year-old ex-President was accompanied on the flight from Madrid to Rome by his third wife Isabel and his personal secretary, Daniel Lopez Rega.

There was a minimum of ceremony at the arrival in Rome, with only a small group of supporters to welcome the ex-President. Although his visit to Italy has been described as strictly private, an official of the Italian Foreign Ministry was on hand at the airport.

Senor Person is expected to stay only two days in Rome before flying to Buenos Aires in a specially chartered aircraft on Friday (17 Nov.). This is his second attempt to return home since he was toppled by a military coup in 1955.
