Background: A delegation representing Australian trade unions and other community groups has arrived in Portuguese East Timor to investigate plan for the future of this tiny colony-including the possibility of union with its larger and more powerful neighbour, Indonesia.

And while they're getting the Timorese viewpoint they'll also be hard put to avoid hearing the Indonesian point of view-in the form of propaganda broadcasts which are beamed almost non-stop across the border by the Indonesians, and picked up on radio sets which, in some areas, have been distributed free by organisations favouring the unification of the island.

Gary Scully has been to the border area to investigate this propaganda war and also the recent reports, so far unconfirmed, of a planned invasion by Indonesia.
