  • Description

Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, was the scene of more student unrest on Thursday (5 December) when over two thousand students held a protest meeting at the road junction between the National University and the adjacent University of Malaya.

The meeting followed an earlier attempt to storm a police cordon ringing both institutions -- an attempt broken up by a volley of tear-gas shells.

It was the third day of unrest in the capital, and the students are virtually trapped inside their campuses. The protests have resulted in the arrest of more than one thousand students since Tuesday (3 December).

The student accuse the Malaysian Government of not doing enough to combat inflation or to half the falling price of rubber -- one of the country's prime export commodities.
