    THE FIRST INDIAN-MADE, MEDIUM TANK IS EXPECTED TO COME OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR (1965). THE FACTORY WHICH WILL PRODUCE IT IS NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT MADRAS.

    THE FACTORY IS BEING BUILT BY AN INDIAN COMPANY IN CO-OPERATION WITH VICKERS-ARMSTRONG OF BRITAIN. ALREADY MOST OF THE MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT HAVE ARRIVED, BUT THEY STILL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED.

    BRITISH EXECUTIVES ARE SUPERVISING THE CONSTRUCTION. SOME OF THE INDIAN WORKERS WENT TO BRITAIN FOR TRAINING. THE FACTORY, WHEN COMPLETED, WILL BE THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD, AND WILL TURN OUT OTHER HEAVY VEHICLES.
