The palm plantations of the Ivory Coast which are second in palm-oil production, (in the world) to Malaysia, and are the largest suppliers to the present European market, have received past support from the bankers. The officials had, earlier in their tour, signed an agreement to further finance the Abidjan to Niger railway project, and rolling stock worth more than a million pounds (sterling). The railway already spans the 1,147 kilometres (715 miles) between Abidjan and Ouagadougou, and plays an important part in the transport systems of the Ivory Coast and Upper Volta.
