Background: In a close and exciting contest at the World Hockey Cup Championships the Pakistani team defeated India yesterday (22 October) and qualified to meet Spain in the finals in Barcelona. Though India has not defeated pakistan for the past five years the match was a bitter disappointment for them. Indian completed four pool qualifying contests without conceding a goal before their defeat to Pakistan by a score of two to one. India dominated the play for the first half of the game and led one to nothing at the half. But Pakistan scored twice in the second half and held the Indian team scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Olympic Champion Pakistani team hopes to duplicate their victory against the impressive Spanish team at the finals on Sunday.
