  • Description

Kenyan Olympic Gold Medallist, Kipchoge Keino, today (Sunday) easily won the 37th Cinque Mulini (Five Mills) cross-country race at San Vittore Olona, north of Milan. Another Kenyan, Pauli Moses was second. Third was British runner, Trevor Wright, who finished ahead of three Ethiopians.

The race was run over a 9.5 kilometres (5.9 miles) course, which consists of four laps round five old water mills in the valley of the River Olona. Conditions favoured the African runners, who are used to a hot climate, and the two Kenyans took the lead as soon as the race started. On the third lap Keino opened up a lead of fifty metres (yards), and finally won the race by about 200 metres. Behind him Moses just beat Wright for second place. Olympic Marathon champion, Mamo Wolde of Ethiopia, left his challenge too late and came fourth.
